Where I work
Sid Lerner is the Chairman and Founder of The Monday Campaigns. He started Meatless Monday in 2003 in association with Johns Hopkins University, and since then the campaign has grown into a global movement with programs in 36 countries and participation from thousands of restaurants, schools, worksites, communities and celebrities.
With his wife Helaine, Sid recently established new centers for health promotion to bring marketing savvy to the fight against preventable diseases. The Lerner Centers for Public Health Promotion are at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Sid’s long and varied career includes working as a creative director in advertising on classic brands such as Charmin and Johnson Wax, and writing six non-fiction books. They include The New Words Dictionary (Barnes & Noble); The Facts on File Dictionary of New Words (Facts on File); The New New Words Dictionary (Ballantine Books), and Trash Cash, Fizzbos and Flatliners: A Dictionary of Today's Words (American Heritage Publishing Co.).
In addition to The Monday Campaigns, Sid is President of Biorings LLC, a contraceptive/STD product line he co-invented with two Weill Cornell Medical researchers.
Sid is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Journalism, now The Newhouse School of Public Communications.
