Rose Hayden-Smith is an author, academic & activist for a sustainable food system. She is the founding editor of the UC Food Observer blog. Rose has been a University of California academic since 1992. Her research and practice focus on gardens, food systems and history. Her book, "Sowing the Seeds of Victory: American Gardening Programs of World War I," was published in 2014. Rose is a former Kellogg Foundation Food and Society Policy Fellow. She holds four degrees from UC Santa Barbara, including Masters degrees in Education and U.S. history and a doctorate in U.S. history.
