Where I work
Laura is the co-founder of “The Lexicon of Sustainability” with her husband, artist and information architect, Douglas Gayeton. As Executive Director of the organization, Laura works with the team in Barn #3 to produce films, write education materials, mentor Project Localize teachers and students both in the US and Mexico and to create captivating media around the Lexicon’s taxonomy of sustainability terms all designed to share. She is a social entrepreneur drawing a bridge between the ideology of hope and change deeply rooted in the environmental movement and the practical tools of the healthy and fair food marketplace.
Laura also founded Laloo's, the first goat's milk ice cream in the United States in 2004. Laura has been a featured entrepreneur and innovator in the food industry with an accomplished history centered on food science, animal welfare and the good food movement. She was named one of the top 10 tastemakers by Newsweek, an "Innovator" by Food Network, and enjoyed many features in popular culture media outlets including "Oprah".
Prior to Laloo's, Laura worked in television. She founded Slo.Graffiti, a consumer products branding company that she sold to Palomar Pictures in 2001. Laura owns one technical patent for her subway media invention; Tunnelvision.
Laura is a graduate of Miami University where she rode for the Equestrian team. And, as a former 4-H kid, she enjoys gardening, composting, pickling and working on the farm. She serves on the board of Petaluma Bounty, a community farm and leads the Spring Hill Academy Farm to School program, also in Petaluma.
