I am an AmeriCorps VISTA with United Way assigned to Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities supporting their Food and Farming Network--62+ partners. How did I get here? About five years ago I subscribed to a CSA and discovered good food, but I didn't really know how to cook. So, I took three years off from full-time work to pursue a culinary degree at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute. I became increasingly interested in growing food, culinary nutrition, and childhood obesity issues --attending local Small Farm Conferences, taking gardening workshops, doing an independent study, and more. I graduated in May, and now I'm fortunate to be making a difference in my northwest Michigan community.
