96 percent of American crop-producing farms are owned and operated by families. However, a family farm can be juxtaposed with an industrial farm; while both may be owned and managed by family members, on a true family farm, the family will live on the farm alongside their crops. Farmers who live on the farm with their families and raise their children there will also make sure that their farming practices do not pose a danger to their family, and by extension, the farm workers and environment.
