An Irrigation Water Management Plan (IWM) is a Conservation Activity Plan under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP contract), which offers a contract to farmers to protect natural resources through land stewardship. An Irrigation Water Management Plan controls water application for efficient irrigation and the protection of water resources.

The USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service can help farmers with their irrigation management plans in several ways, including cost share support of technical assistance, which is especially useful for organic producers.

NRCS conservationists examine a farm's specific water needs, then define the optimal water volume, frequency and flow rate to achieve maximum irrigation efficiency. Other goals may include enhanced soil health, reduced energy consumption, minimized soil erosion, improved water quality and greater crop yields
