How Far Your Food Travels has Serious Consequences for Health and the Climate

National Resources Defence Council highlights "how your food is grown, stored, transported, processed and cooked can all influence how it impacts climate change and the environment." The council emphasizes that not only is distance traveled important, but method of transportation is also crucial — with air transport (asparagus, bell peppers, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, and raspberries are all frequently transported by air) resulting in far more emissions than sea transport. And the effects go beyond the climate, contributing to pollution and impacting health.
