This labeling law, referred to as COOL, requires many products to state where it has been cultivated and/or made. Depending on the product, different rules determine to what extent the label covers. For meats, the label must indicate every country that participated in the production steps of birth, raising, and slaughter of the animal. The law has been in effect since 2005, beginning with seafood, followed by other commodities.
