Definition of Food Swamp

Definition of Food Swamp

Food “desert” is a bit of a misnomer — it isn’t that there is necessarily a lack of food in underresourced communities, but rather, these communities are flooded with unhealthy, highly processed, low-nutrient food combined with disproportionate advertising for unhealthy food compared to wealthier neighborhoods; making “food swamp” a more appropriate description of these areas.
